Working with Trauma through a Gestalt Lens

Date: Tuesday 20th and 27th February 2024 – 6.00pm – 9pm

In this course we will look at Gestalt theory to understand how growth disorders emerge and how we and of course our clients, may live a more rewarding life free from the trauma of the past and it’s hold on the present.

Overview

Fritz Perls, one of the founders of Gestalt and his colleagues were very interested in experiencing the present moment for what it is.  However, due to growth disorders, the Gestalt term for emotional problems, we can experience the present moment as something other than what it is.

The trauma we experience in early life gets projected onto the here and now and we experience this moment as if it were a moment from the past.  The unfinished business can remain with us and greatly impact on our relationships, ability to engage in life and contribute greatly to mental health problems.
