Overview
Fritz Perls, one of the founders of Gestalt and his colleagues were very interested in experiencing the present moment for what it is. However, due to growth disorders, the Gestalt term for emotional problems, we can experience the present moment as something other than what it is.
The trauma we experience in early life gets projected onto the here and now and we experience this moment as if it were a moment from the past. The unfinished business can remain with us and greatly impact on our relationships, ability to engage in life and contribute greatly to mental health problems.
